Teacher Student Fight Must Read

A Baltimore teacher is on administrative leave and a student is facing charges after a fight inside a school was caught on camera.

A cellphone video of a confrontation that took place at a special education school in Baltimore County in September has gone viral on YouTube.

In the outside of A Baltimore city High School on Friday, a teacher, who can be seen in video in a light-colored shirt talking on cellphone, charged at a student. The teacher can be heard saying, you can't even breath along with some expletives. Sources said the teacher can been seen on video using her cellphone to call for assistance with the student prior to the fight.

Someone else also started recording the incident from a different angle, showing the fight continued with the teacher grabbing the student and slamming him into the wall. It appears the teacher grabbed the student's shoulder and didn't let go.

One parent thought that was a bad idea on the teacher's part.
"He's got a job to do. That's what he gets paid to do is to teach, not to fight," said former City school parent Gloria Manning He's supposed to act professional, not like a student or like a young hopper or something. City schools are more professional than that. I don't understand why they got that going on in there."

But more video appears to show the student as the aggressor. Sources told 11 News that inside the classroom before things spilled out into the outside , the class was taking a test, and the teacher told the student to stop talking and chewing gum or he would have to stop the test. Sources said that's when a verbal altercation began, and then things turned physical. In the video, the student can be seen slinging a sliding chair in the direction of the teacher.

The student then slams an object onto a desk and appears to throw something at the teacher while yelling at him as he's storming out of the room and walks outside the video showed. Sources said one of the objects thrown was a keyboard. When the incident moved into the outside one more video showed the student hurling verbal threats at the teacher and getting close to the teachers face and that's when a physical altercation ensued.

At least one City school student defended the teacher.
"I don't know. The student shouldn't have did that, but the teacher wasn't wrong for hitting him back because it was self-defense," said the student, who didn't want to be identified.

physical and verbal abuse are committed against a student for chewing gum.
Officials said the incident started as a verbal confrontation that turned physical. The question is whether the teacher acted unprofessionally or if he was just overly frustrated with the student, who sources said was the instigator.
